One Man Leaves, A Community Thrives

There's a lot to say about David Day, but even more now that he's departing from seven fine years of turning a college rock town into a big dance party. With the passing of the Basstown torch, the Nicky Digital outpost, and the memory of a righteous art loft that housed the making of what will be an incredible film, much will be left behind, and Basstown will live on. Etched in cyber-stone proof is here, proving how New York and San Francisco - with Detroit and Chicago joining in - are the meccas of techno in a country where electronic music has had rough history, Boston will grow up to be the ugly duckling that just might explode within the next year or so.

And, uhh, I'm not sure how to segue this in, so I'm just going to say: BALTIMORODER IS THE GREATEST DJ IN ALL OF BOSTON RIGHT NOW.

So, as it goes, I suppose going on an on about the memories and future plans is pointless now. If you want to read about the history in the making, go David's directory on the Boston Phoenix website. For the future, keep your eyes open...Basstown has arrived, and we've signed a lifelong lease.

Visibility: Lil' Mama

"Lip Gloss" ruled my life. It still does. By far the only reason for a girl to ever want to be 13 again, Lil' Mama is back with another music video. Love love love it.

Sonic Youth: Reunions Are The New Pink

Sad But True: Moore Regrets Financial Disadvantages Of Sonic Youth's Longevity

New Band Of Horses Track

Sometimes it takes lighting a fire under your ass to get you up and running again. Vacation is a plague to all overachievers, like your truly, because we're suddenly inclined to think "Huh...well...I guess the blogosphere will go on without me."

But no! How, then, how will you know that The Tripwire just posted an MP3 of the new Band Of Horses track?! After putting out one of the most incredible indie rock debut records I have ever heard, I couldn't imagine how they'd follow up songs of such perfection with a matching wave of emotion that rushes over you like a flood.

Yeah...dramatic, eh? Well, give it a listen yourself, and get emotive. October 9th...Cease To Begin

Also, some tour dates:
09.02.07 - East Troy, WI (Download Festival)
09.08.07 - Los Angeles, CA (Wiltern)
09.09.07 - San Francisco, CA (Mezzanine)

Back ack ack!

As promised (maybe not, but whatever), I have returned. Dry your eyes, I'm sure the entire blogosphere came to a deafening halt in my absence.

*cough*

Anyway, having returned the 17th instead of the 16th, I missed a performance by Cambridge robots Big Digits at Hennessey's upstairs, but I was happy to come home to this video for "The World Is Yourz":

Vay-Kay

Some of you may be wondering if I've died.

Sadly, no.

In fact, I am on vacation until Monday or so, and more or less am on vacation from all things, including Boston.

Love,
Chaz

FRIDAY : Booka Shade Invades Boston (and we couldn't be happier)

This weekend is a big one, but nothing comes close to the beginning events that Friday Brings. All the way from Germany, the much-lauded DJ duo Booka Shade will be making an appearance at Mansion with opening sets by DJs Jeff Grosse and Jay Prouty. This is Booka's second ever North American appearance, and as a proud part of the esteemed Get Physical record label, we're very fortunate. Loved around the world, Booka Shade - which is comprised of Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier - were a synth-pop act signed to a major label in the early 90s, but were seduced into the worlds of trance and techno, and by the turn of the century they had teamed up with DJ T and M.A.N.D.Y. to help jumpstart the Get Physical label in 2002.

In 2004, with Get Physical established as one of Europe's most respected new electronic music labels, Booka Shade decided to step from the shadows and pursue their own solo career again. Known widely in the American techno scene as great remixers, much of their original work is the best of their material to date. With one of the most engaging live shows and the sound and setting of Boston's own Mansion, this is going to be a blast.

Pre-order your tickets here.
Montreal sold out, and they're ripping through the cities as they visit them one by one.

Formed by Jay Prouty of Cassiamor (Boston), Jeff Grosse of DiskHo (Montreal), and Jamie Giorgio of NEWS (Boston), their mission is to throw cutting edge music events in the city. Booka Shade is no small start!

Finally, simply because it's a fine piece of art to advertise what will be a ground-breaking event for Boston's growth spurt of a techno scene - here's the offical flier:
