kssm mss n mnml ssgs

Without any Kassem pics for use, we turn to sausages. Oh yes.

mnml ssgs is a wonderful website. It's devoted to minimal techno - one of my favorite things - and while being light-hearted, the entries can also be more informative than any other spot on the Internet. It's a great source for raw information on lesser known producers and DJs, but also a good place to get an honest opinion from music lovers with very, very good taste.

The site has just put up a Q&A with Kassem Mosse to follow up on last week's 18th mix, which features him on the decks.

Oh, and he's from Germany - surprise!

The Chicken Of Thor

Aside from music, I love sharing random bits of fashion, function, politics and culinary wonders, but sometimes there are animated .gifs that are so awesome that I just want to post and say: LOOK AT THIS BRILLIANCE!

Found on Best Message Board Ever, which you can't see anyway because you don't have an account :-0

Waiter! Waiter! There's a SHARK in my soup!

Always a sucker for keen design, I would buy the lot of these (if, you know, it weren't for the recession thing, sure). Greek designer Apostolos Porsanidis has these for sale up at Italy's Industreal. Molto bene!

Scarlett Johansson: Enough Already

Someone on a private mailing list made the following comments about Scarlett Johansson regarding a thread of h8rade surrounding her recent cover of Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye" for the film He's Just Not That Into You

"I feel pretty entitled to how I feel about these covers, and I only get madder as I think about the A&R meetings that precede things like this. And I'm not sure it can all be explained by ad rates and click-thrus. Covers of this disaffected, unimaginative sort would get her booted from American Idol right quick, so I don't think it's the sort of thing that's merely indicative of the age we're in. My beef with her oeuvre is that these are some of my favorite songs of all time, and I the opposite of enjoy it when people bring nothing to the table when covering them."

Well-said. I couldn't agree more. Noting also how, as an actress, she cannot play any role outside of the disaffected/mid-20s character was also precisely on point. I loved Vicky Christina Barcelona despite not being a big fan of Woody Allen myself. Even amongst Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, she's still just a disaffected nuisance of a personality amongst theirs.

But anyone, judge for yourself. If you want to hear the Johansson cover, head to Stereogum

New Gui Boratto Album ( l i s t e n )

March 23rd marks the release of Take My Breath Away. In 2007, Gui Boratto did just that with his Kompakt Records full-length, Chromophobia. He became well-known through more popular indie circuits for his single "Beautiful Life," but there were several tracks spread across the album that one could debate trumped the epic track.

Now, with the opportunity to stream the entire album, it looks to me that "No Turning Back" may be the "Beautiful Life" of Take My Breath Away. Regardless, this album has a different atmosphere altogether, and it'll take a few listens to really let the impressions sink in. There is a bit more bubblegum and a bit more electro-pop. The dark corners of Chromophobia are not as prevalent, but there's much to be explored on this new record.

Lost in LOST

LOST is back in full effect, and with more questions than answers the season premiere was a tie-up as to whether or not it satisfied its variety of expectations. Personally, it's worth going for, and as the show reaches a point of explanation (finally), I find myself turning more and more to Lostpedia and the LOSTcast podcasts.

Not boring in the least, it's Spoiler City for anyone that isn't caught up, but for all it would be worth to check out the hilarious pilot re-written by Andrew Bridgman and published on McSweeney's Internet Tendency. Hieroglyphs, four-toed statues, and time-traveling bunnies bring us into a whole new realm of awesome television, with the small fact that Kate still sucks and we're just going to have to swallow it.

As for YouTube's hilarious take on things, this is worth sharing with your fellow LOSTies.
